To avoid unnecessary speculation, the Blue Ribbon Report to the Superintendent
will not be attached to this agenda item until it is presented at the Board meeting.

When PG&E announced in June 2016 their plans to close the Diablo Canyon Power Plant no later than 2025 when the license expires, San Luis Coastal has actively engaged the Board, staff, and community about the substantial economic impacts of PG&E’s decision.  Among other efforts, the Superintendent assembled a Blue Ribbon Committee to serve as an independent advisory body.  He requested the following:
  • Conduct a completely independent review of the long-term financial issues facing the District as a result of the direct loss of $8 million annually in property tax revenues generated by the nuclear power plant;
  • Understand the key drivers of expenses and revenues;
  • Create a working framework to address the loss of these tax revenues, mindful that the central focus is to ensure the ongoing success of our students.
The Committee’s Membership includes a cross-section of local leaders within the community.  They include former and current education professionals, parents of current district students as well as district graduates, business and civic leaders, all with an ardent commitment to our students and teachers, as well as to our community’s overall intellectual and economic well being.
